Community Credit Union Announces Transition of Lewiston Branch, Reaffirms Commitment to Local Community

Lewiston, Maine – Community Credit Union announced today that it will transition away from full-service operations at its 144 Pine Street, Lewiston branch location as part of a broader plan to evolve how it serves members in Lewiston and the surrounding community.

The decision reflects several factors, including ongoing safety concerns surrounding the current location, changing member service preferences, technological advancements in banking services, and long-term operational planning. Community Credit Union emphasized that the transition was made thoughtfully and with careful consideration for employees, members, and the organization’s continued investment in Lewiston.

Importantly, Community Credit Union is not leaving Lewiston.

Community Credit Union will continue serving members locally through upgraded drive-up services with Interactive Teller Machines (ITMs) at 132 Pine Street in Lewiston, 40 Stanley Street in Auburn and 1025 Auburn Road in Turner, digital banking options, nearby branch locations, and plans for a future downtown retail branch within the Dewitt Development located at 40 Pine Street, anticipated to open in early 2027.

“This was not a decision we made lightly,” said Jennifer Hogan, President and CEO of Community Credit Union. “We have proudly served Lewiston for many years and remain deeply committed to this community. At the same time, ongoing safety concerns surrounding this location became an increasingly important factor in our decision-making process alongside broader operational and service considerations. Our priority is ensuring we continue providing members and employees with a safe, accessible, and sustainable banking experience while continuing to invest in Lewiston’s future.”

Community Credit Union shared that employees impacted by the transition will continue to be supported throughout the process, with no anticipated layoffs connected to the operational changes.

“Our employees and members remain at the center of every decision we make,” Hogan added. “We are committed to communicating openly throughout this transition and ensuring our members continue to receive the personalized service and support they expect from Community Credit Union.”

Community Credit Union also emphasized its continued commitment to the Lewiston community and its desire to remain an active and collaborative community partner moving forward.

“We care deeply about Lewiston and believe strongly in its future,” said Hogan. “We recognize the complexity of the challenges facing downtown areas across many communities and remain committed to working alongside community leaders, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and residents to support a safe, vibrant, and thriving Lewiston.”

Additional member communications and transition updates will be shared as plans progress.
